General Considerations
- Fractures usually have irregular edges and lack a cortex, at least on one side
- They can occur anywhere in a bone, and are not bilaterally symmetrical
- Sesamoids are smooth-edged and well-corticated
- They are common in the hands and feet and are usually symmetrical
